I've been thinking a lot about the impact this tragic event has had on the surviving family and community. Reading about Scarlett Shiu-Mei Ku and her family in the news was incredibly upsetting. The fact that this unfolded in their own home, a place meant to be a sanctuary, is just so distressing. Not only did they lose Scarlett, but they also lost Jeremy, someone so young with presumably so much ahead of him. This whole situation highlights the scary and sad reality of domestic violence issues. I came across an article mentioning how the local community is coming together to offer support to the surviving family members. It’s at least somewhat comforting to know there are people out there trying to help. I also saw that Scarlett has been added to the National Gun Violence Memorial. It's a powerful reminder of the personal and irreversible consequences of gun violence and how it can ripple through so many lives. I’m keeping Scarlett, Jeremy, and the entire family in my thoughts during this impossible time.
