Mattheaus Moses was 24 when he was killed in Oakland on December 12, 2010. His death was one of 94 homicides in the city that year, a period marked by a high rate of shootings and violence that disproportionately affected young adults in neighborhoods facing poverty and limited opportunities.

Oakland held a memorial at St. Columba Catholic Church where wooden crosses were placed on the front lawn to represent those lost to violence in 2010. Family members, community leaders, religious figures and local officials attended the ceremony, which combined mourning with calls for reconciliation and community action to address the conditions behind the violence.

Are there readers who remember the events in Oakland that December or who knew Mattheaus and can share information about him or the circumstances of his death?
