I came across the tragic story of Jacob Gomez, and I've found myself particularly disturbed by the increasing accessibility of firearms to teenagers. It's terrifying to think about how young people can so easily obtain weapons these days, turning what might have been a regular disagreement or mistake into something deadly. The situation with Jacob is just another dreadful reminder of this growing issue in our communities. I remember reading how his family is trying to focus on the joyous parts of his life, which is incredibly brave and honorable in such a difficult time. But I can't help but think about how this all could have been avoided if there were better measures in place to keep guns out of the hands of minors. It's maddening to imagine parents living in constant fear of their children becoming another statistic. Jacob was clearly loved and cherished, and the hole left in his absence is something I can't possibly comprehend. For his and other families touched by similar tragedies, I hope there will be more conversations about real change in gun control for younger people. They deserve a safer world.
