I came across a detail in the shooting that hasn't been widely discussed, and it really seems crucial to understanding what happened that afternoon. Ricky was killed on West Root Street, which, for those who don't know, is in a part of Fuller Park known for some tough history. It's really saddening to think that such violence can erupt in broad daylight in an area full of families and everyday people just trying to live their lives. What concerns me even more is that this happened right before kids start coming home from school. It makes you realize how close to home these things hit—the neighborhood where Ricky was killed should be a safe place, but the fact that these suspects felt comfortable enough to do this in broad daylight shows how dire the situation is. I can't begin to imagine the fear this instills in the community. It's comforting to see such community recognition for Ricky, but I really hope this sparks more dialogue around making our neighborhoods safer. My thoughts go out to Ricky's family and the entire community affected by this senseless act. They deserve answers and justice, and it’s my hope the police find the suspects soon. If anyone knows something, please, for the sake of Ricky’s loved ones, speak up.
