It’s often in these dark times that the true spirit of a community shines through, and I’m hopeful that the discussions about stronger domestic violence protections continue beyond this tragedy. I didn’t know Ava personally, but seeing how people have rallied gives me some hope that her memory will inspire change and bring more awareness to domestic violence issues. It's just so difficult knowing that this sort of violence still happens — my thoughts are with everyone affected by this loss.
