Hey everyone, I've been reading up on the tragic shooting of Marquis Champion, and something that's really sticking with me is the impact on his school community. It’s devastating to think about the ripple effect his loss must have on his classmates and teachers at Bay View High School. Losing a peer in such a violent manner is unimaginable, and it’s important that we think about the kind of support these kids will need moving forward. Schools should be a safe haven, not a place where fear lingers in the hallways. I really hope Bay View High has grief counselors available to help students process what's happened. With tensions already high and the city grappling with recent violence, it’s critical these young people have space to express their emotions and work through their grief. We all need to rally around the kids and staff in any way we can. Sending strength and love to everyone affected by this senseless act of violence. Marquis and his friends deserved so much more. Stay safe, everyone. Hug your loved ones tight.
