I'm really troubled by the violent trends we're seeing downtown, especially around the lively areas we all frequent. Knowing that Raymond Wilson Jr. was targeted so senselessly while just going about his night in such a public space is deeply unsettling. It's a stark reminder of how safety feels increasingly elusive, even in places meant for students and socializing. What hits home is thinking about his family, whose lives are turned upside down without warning. I can't imagine the pain of losing someone so young and loved, in such a public way, amidst rumors and media frenzy. It must be unbearable to see the place they call home become a backdrop to such a tragedy. The community is understandably restless for change. It’s like, how many more times do we need to hear about another lost life before serious measures are taken? My heart goes out to Raymond's loved ones, and I hope the city finds a way to address this violence so we can all feel safe again, day or night. It’s about time we see some real change before another family has to add their voice to this tragic chorus.

I can't get over how tense things have become around the Milwaukee School of Engineering campus after the shooting on July 19. I used to hang out in that area a lot because of its vibrant nightlife, but hearing about what happened to Raymond is genuinely frightening. He was so young, just 21, with his whole life ahead of him. I can't imagine what his family and friends are going through—it must be unimaginably painful to lose someone so suddenly and violently. The police have made an arrest, but the fact that another shooter might still be out there makes everything feel so uncertain and unsafe. I keep thinking about the 15-year-old who was also injured; just a kid really, and already caught up in such a tragic event. It’s not just about one person's senseless death, but about a community feeling on edge, doubting its own safety. I hope the authorities are able to bring some justice and peace to Raymond's family and the community soon.
