James Sutton was 41 when he was shot to death in his Logan Township, New Jersey home on the night of November 14, 1992. A Master Gunnery Sergeant and Vietnam veteran, he lived with his wife and their seven-year-old daughter in the High Hills Farms section. His wife and daughter had been out late and returned shortly before 1 a.m.; his wife briefly came back for a forgotten purse before leaving again.

Sutton was found in the lower-level recreation room, shot multiple times. Investigators reported a trail of 9mm shell casings from the front door, which was ajar, to the sofa where he lay. There were no signs of forced entry and nothing appeared to be missing, so detectives believed Sutton may have known his killer. Neighbors said they heard no gunshots that night; authorities tested the wife’s hands for gunshot residue but results were not disclosed.

The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and later the Naval Criminal Investigative Service investigated, re-examining evidence and re-interviewing people over the years, but no arrests have been made and no suspects officially named. Does anyone in the area remember unusual activity or people near High Hills Farms that night?
