Catrina Hinton was 18 when she was last seen after finishing a shift at a Mandee clothing store in Bayonne on January 14, 2006. Her family reported her missing when she failed to return home and did not pick up her last paycheck, a detail investigators noted as inconsistent with a voluntary disappearance. Police labeled the case suspicious from the start.

On February 6, 2006, Hinton’s body was found in a shallow grave in Bayview Cemetery in Jersey City. An autopsy indicated she had been beaten or kicked to death. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office recovered a DNA sample at the scene, but as of a renewed public appeal in July 2007 the profile had not matched any entries in the databases and no arrests or public suspect identifications had been announced.
