Here's what I have so far on this case:
Victim: Luella Blakeslee
Resident of:
Date: Last seen alive 07-04-1969 at her father George Blakeslee’s house on Route 3 in Hooksett – Remains discovered 05-09-1998.
Incident Location:
Manner of Death: Homicidal Violence of an Undetermined Type
Circumstances: Luella was 29 year old, working as a school teacher when she went missing. Her skeletal remains were found 5/9/1998 by two joggers on a path in Hopkinton. The remains had been buried in a shallow grave and personal affects were found in a nearby loam pit.
· Benjamin Mozrall of NH State Police and officer of 29 years who was a homicide investigator with the NH Major crimes unit was digging in a gravel pit in Hopkinton. He is quoted saying “It was about a month and a half after I retired. Apparently what happened was I dug up her body and the remains fell into the roadway.” Source: https://www.capecodtimes.com/story/news/1998/11/11/retired-n-h-officer-finds/50278609007/ .
Background: Luella liked to travel and did so extensively. She visited Europe, Australia and the Middle East. According to her family, Luella had plans to leave the states in search of a peaceful lifestyle.
· Luella had an on again off again relationship with Robert Breest, a pathological liar who told Luella he was an aspiring doctor. He was working as a carpenter at the time.
· She left her home 7/4/1969 to go on a date and left her car at her father’s house for the evening. She never returned and her father reported her missing the following day, 7/5/1969 when she did not retrieve the car. A massive search retrieved nothing. Search areas included Hooksett, Warner and Sutton.
· Luella’s diary was returned to her family in the summer of 2013. Entries are written in coded French and English hybrid. This was allegedly an attempt to conceal the entries from prying eyes. Some of her diary entries describe and elaborate on her fear of Breest.
Investigative Findings: Luella tried to leave Robert multiple times but he would not take no for an answer (Source: https://coldcasene.org/f/luella-blakeslee).
· According to sources, Luella pulled away the first time when Breest was arrested on felony possession charges. When investigators showed up at her home to question her regarding Debra Horne’s disappearance, Luella was mortified. She tried to leave the relationship at this point and Robert continued stalking her.
· When Luella began dating other men, Breest became possessive and was often enraged by this. One of her dates, Dennis Holland, described Breest as aggressive and shared with investigators that Luella was doing her best to cut ties.
· Luella’s friend Noella Pichette told the Concord Monitor that Luella had instructed her brother to protect her diaries in case something ever happened to her.
· Luella’s brother Ken asserts that she was fearful of what Breest might do to her.
· Breest was a POI in Luella’s case as well as Debra Horne’s (a child found in the trunk of a car in Sandown on 08-10-1969).
· A court hearing was held 08-27 in the Merrimack County Superior Court for a motion filed to commit Breest to a hospital for eval. He had been arrested earlier that month on a charge of aggravated assault involving two young girls from France. He threatened one of the women, Arlette Destot, with a pistol and assaulted her. He had already been questioned about Luella and Debra by this time.
· Breest was known to have “mental blackouts.” When police showed up at his residence, Breest’s mother opened the door and went pale, saying “I’ve been expecting this.” She then showed police a broken door Breest had put his fist through with no recollection.
· Breest stalked a woman named Theresa Pinard for months when she was 17. She was one of Susan Randall’s close friends. Theresa later came forward after Breest’s arrest to state she feared for her life if he were to be released.
· Breest told Hooksett police chief Maurice Boisvert: “I hit Luella, put her in a car, took her to Sutton and Buried her.” This information was volunteered, and Boisvert was not even asking about Luella’s disappearance. Breest was applying for a conceale
Have any charges been put up against Breest?
