On May 9, 1998, her skeletal remains were discovered in a wooded area in Hopkinton, New Hampshire. The condition of her remains made it impossible to determine the exact cause of death, but it was ruled as a case of 'homicidal violence.' Breest, who was later convicted of the 1971 murder of Susan Randall, remains the prime suspect in Luella's case, though no formal charges have been brought against him for her death.
