There’s a particular detail in Howard Comis's case that's been nagging at me since I first read about it. It's the fact that he left his pit bull with a neighbor and mentioned he'd be gone for four days. That seems oddly specific, especially considering his mental state at the time. Did he have an actual plan to return? Or was it just something to reassure the neighbor to take care of the dog temporarily? I wonder if anyone has looked into what he normally did on his trips to Harlem, and if four days away was a usual thing for him. Since he had ties to the Occupy Wall Street movement, is there a chance he got caught up in something related to that during those days? Occupy was really gaining momentum around that time, and if his mental health was deteriorating, any number of things could have happened. Also, it seems unusual no one among those groups in Harlem or the protest scene came forward with information if he was actively involved. As someone with bipolar disorder off his meds, the types of interactions he had in those circles could have left a strong impression on others. Is there a way to track down people he might have been with during those days through the movement? Any thoughts or similar cases anyone knows of?
