I’ve been thinking a lot about the role of community spaces and how something as simple as a domino game can be central to our lives, especially in many immigrant communities. Rulsy Mata Sosa’s death is such a painful reminder of how quickly these safe spaces can become scenes of violence. It’s devastating to know that a regular evening activity could turn into something so tragic. I can’t stop wondering about the other people at the game that night. How are they coping, witnessing such an unthinkable act unfold before them? That corner where neighbors once felt at home must feel so different now. I hope the community finds ways to heal and reclaim those streets as their own again, a place where joys and laughter can return. Rulsy and others who have suffered deserve justice, but equally, the neighborhood deserves peace and safety. Sending love to all those grappling with this loss.
