Does anyone else feel like the role of a school psychologist like Ryan Long's often goes unnoticed until tragedies like this one happen? I've been thinking about how his peers and students described him as warm and dedicated. It seems like he really made a difference in the lives of those around him, which is no small feat given the challenges the job can bring. It must be so hard for the students and staff of the Oyster River Cooperative School District to lose such a supportive figure. It’s so important to support educators and school staff who contribute so much to mental health in schools. Just heartbreaking to think what everyone connected to him is going through right now. My thoughts are with the community as they try to heal from this immense loss.
Has anyone else been thinking about the support systems in place for families dealing with chronic illness and mental health struggles? I can’t help but wonder if there were signs or opportunities for intervention that might have been missed in Ryan Long's case. It's just so unfathomable to imagine what the Long family went through, especially with Ryan's battle against brain cancer and Emily's struggles with depression. It seems like they were under an incredible amount of stress. I feel like it's so important for communities to rally around families in crisis, making sure they know they’re not alone and there are resources available. This tragedy makes me think about how vital it is to talk openly about mental health and seek help before things reach a breaking point. Sending love and support to everyone who knew the Long family. These stories are just too close to home sometimes.
