Hey everyone, I've been thinking a lot about how tough it must have been for Michelle Mitchell's family back in the '70s. Not only did they lose their daughter in such a cruel way, but they also had to endure decades of uncertainty and unanswered questions. Imagine how difficult it must have been when Cathy Woods confessed and was convicted, and then realizing years later that she was the wrong person.
What's so striking to me is how far forensic technology has come and the role it played in overturning such a huge miscarriage of justice. It's just unreal to think that a simple DNA test could have saved a woman from spending over 35 years in prison for a crime she didn’t commit. My heart goes out to both families—Michelle's and Cathy’s. It’s a constant reminder of the imperfections and limitations of the justice system, especially back in those days. I’m curious about how they’re both coping with everything now, all these years later. Anyone have insights on that aspect?
I’ve been thinking a lot about the role of DNA in the Michelle Mitchell case, and it’s fascinating but also a bit scary how a single piece of evidence can turn everything on its head. It still blows my mind that Cathy Woods spent over 35 years behind bars for something she didn’t do. Just imagine how she must have felt—completely upending her life, and only way later does the real science come into play. I wonder if there are other older cases where DNA evidence could make a difference, but maybe haven't even been re-evaluated yet. It's like we're sitting on a potential goldmine that could save someone else from a similar fate. Really makes you appreciate advancements in forensic science, but also feel for the victims of these past gaps in our system. Thoughts?
