Did anyone else notice how eerie it is that Derek's note simply said, "Don’t follow me"? It almost feels like he was trying to ensure nobody would intervene. It's odd considering he left so much gear behind in his car. If his plan was to venture into the wilderness to test his survival skills, wouldn’t he take that equipment with him? The mixture of his fascination with survival shows and that note... it paints a complicated picture. While I understand wanting to be alone in nature, it’s unsettling that he seemed to plan so extensively yet didn't utilize the very resources he brought. There might be more to this than it seems, but what? Did anyone else interpret the note differently, or does it seem like a request for solitude? Either way, the situation feels off.

I've been following Derek Lueking's case for a while, and something that sticks out to me is the detail about the gear left behind in his car. Why would someone go through the trouble of purchasing and packing all those survival items—like the tent and sleeping bag—but leave them unused? It's almost like he changed his mind at the last minute or didn’t intend to use them at all. I'm curious about other cases where similar patterns occurred. Do any of you remember stories where missing persons have left behind essential items? Could it be an indication of a sudden change in plans, or perhaps something more sinister was at play? The "Don't follow me" note adds another layer of mystery. Did he intend it as a way to prevent family or rescuers from searching, or was it meant for someone else entirely? It's haunting how so many questions linger without any definitive answers. Thoughts?

Has anyone looked into the specific spot where Derek's car was found, Newfound Gap? It's a pretty popular location with lots of foot traffic, so it's puzzling that no one saw him heading into the trails or noted anything unusual. Could it be that he deliberately chose that spot to either blend in or disappear more easily? I was reading that Newfound Gap is a common starting point for several trails, which might make tracking him specifically a real challenge if he was determined to vanish. Also, with the survival gear left in his car, it’s almost as if he wanted them found, but why leave them behind? It makes me wonder if it was a diversion or if something interrupted his plans after parking there. Thoughts?
