I came across a bit of info that's been on my mind about Meeyah Smith's case and felt compelled to share. I've lived in Chicago for years and know how tight-knit community groups can be, especially ones like Englewood First Responders, where Meeyah was actively involved. It's almost unbearable to think that she, someone dedicating her time to lifting others up and fighting violence, would fall victim to it herself. The very fact that her efforts were in support of reducing neighborhood crime makes the situation even more gut-wrenching. For those not familiar, Englewood First Responders isn't just a passive group—they're seriously on the ground making change happen. Having a member of their community taken like this is a sharp blow, not only to those closest to Meeyah but also to everyone that she has indirectly touched through her volunteer work. It's almost as if this tragedy cuts deeper because of the promise Meeyah represented. I urge anyone who might have seen something the night of July 4th or who might have any information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, to step forward. Meeyah's legacy and values deserve that justice, and her family and community need answers.
