The recent developments in Rachael Hughes' case are just unsettling. I keep thinking about how transitory life is and how cruelty can suddenly shatter it. What I’d like some opinions on is the role that surveillance footage played in the arrest of Michael Bullock. It’s reassuring to know that this technology can lead to swift justice, but it also makes me wonder about the amount of surveillance in our daily lives. While I’m grateful this led to an arrest in Rachael’s case, I can’t help but feel for her family who have to process this public exposure alongside their private grief. Hopefully, these advancements in technology will be put to even better use in making our communities feel safer, yet it’s a contemplation worth having. Thoughts?
