I've been doing some digging into the Cedar Rapids incident involving Joe Simon Miller, and I came across something intriguing about the weather conditions that day. Historical weather data suggests that the rain on June 8, 1940, was far heavier than what's typically reported. This aligns with witness accounts of sudden, intense downpours which might have exacerbated the precarious situation on the bridge. It's possible that the unexpected volume of rain led to faster water currents in the Cedar River than anticipated. Could this have impacted search efforts along the riverbank in the days that followed? It’s understandable they couldn’t find Joe in those conditions, but I wonder if further downriver searches were not adequately pursued due to the impromptu nature of the search operations in inclement weather. Thoughts or similar stories?
