I've been following this case since it first broke, and something that's been on my mind is the bravery of the deputies involved in the chase. The suspects reportedly fired at them during the pursuit—it must've taken a lot of courage to keep going, knowing their lives were at risk. The decision to chase and contain, all while being shot at, required split-second decisions and a lot of coordination. These deputies played a crucial role not only in quickly apprehending the suspects but also in preventing further danger to the community by setting up that perimeter. As important as it is to focus on justice for Aaron Hammer and to support his family in their grief, I also think we should acknowledge the challenging work law enforcement does in these high-pressure situations. It's a small comfort amidst such a tragedy, but I'm grateful for those willing to run into harm's way to restore some sense of safety. My heart goes out to Aaron's loved ones, and I hope they find peace and justice soon.
