I've been following the case of Ja'Loynie Cosey, and it just hit me how young the kids involved in this tragedy are. As much as we're all searching for answers and justice, I think it’s really important to remember the ripple effect this has on Ja'Loynie’s peers and classmates. I read somewhere that he was just starting eighth grade—isn't that the time when you're supposed to be excited about things like school dances and new classes, not getting caught up in such violence?
The fact that a 14-year-old is now facing such serious charges is mind-boggling. Being involved in this situation at such a young age, no matter what side of events they were on, is just another layer of tragedy in itself. It feels like there’s a bigger conversation needed about what’s going on with youth in Denver, and honestly, everywhere.
I hope both families involved are getting the support they need right now. Can't imagine facing something this life-altering and tragic where the future seems so uncertain. They’re all in my thoughts.
