I'm constantly heartened by the strength and resilience shown by the families involved in such difficult cases, and the Harvey case in Richmond still weighs heavy on my mind. Something I've been pondering is the role that sleepovers play in children's lives and how this one, in particular, ties into the events of that tragic day. Stella had just returned from a sleepover that morning, and it's haunting to think how a typical childhood moment so quickly turned into a nightmare. I find myself reflecting on the neighbor's observation of Kathryn at the door, looking pale and ashen. It makes me wonder if there were any signs or instincts that might have been overlooked by anyone who crossed paths with the family that day. It’s often said that hindsight is 20/20, but it leaves me questioning if there were subtleties that were lost in the mundanity of a chilly New Year’s Day morning. The strength shown by their community, especially the neighbor and family friends who acted quickly upon noticing something was wrong, is commendable. It serves as a reminder of the importance of looking out for one another and trusting our instincts, even if everything seems fine on the surface. My heart goes out to everyone who knew the Harvey family and to those who continue to honor their memory.
