I’ve been thinking a lot about the repercussions in terms of mental health for all those who were part of the Jackson Fire Department around the time of the 1996 tragedy. It’s hard enough losing a colleague under any circumstances, but to lose four in such a violent and unexpected manner must be unimaginable. I wonder what kind of support the department had access to back then. Were there counselors or resources to help them cope with the aftermath, or was it more of a “tough it out” environment? Firefighters like Rick Robbins dedicate their lives to serving and protecting their community. It's essential we take care of them too, especially after such traumatic events. If anyone has insights or can share how first responder departments typically handle these situations, I’m sure many would find it helpful.
