I recently came across this tragic case from 1996, and something struck me that hasn’t been discussed much. Has anyone else wondered about the effect this horrific event had on the Fort Lauderdale maintenance crew who weren't physically harmed but witnessed the aftermath? These individuals would have arrived at the trailer just after their colleagues were shot—it's unimaginable what that must have been like.
While we often focus on the victims who lost their lives and their families, and rightly so, I believe it's important to also consider the emotional scars left on surviving coworkers who showed up for what they thought was a normal day. Witnessing a crime scene where your friends worked and seeing their lives cut short in such a brutal manner? I don’t know how one begins to process that.
Does anyone have insights into what kind of support was offered to those employees who had to deal with such a traumatic event? It's crucial that we remember everyone impacted and advocate for the mental health resources that could be life-changing for them. Sending thoughts to all families and friends affected by this horrible tragedy.
