Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking a lot about Sheila Etheridge's case, and something keeps coming back to me—the role the community played in helping to solve her and the other women's murders. It’s absolutely gut-wrenching to imagine what Sheila's father and friend must have felt when finding her. Yet, it was their love and concern, pushing to find answers, that played a pivotal role in progressing this investigation over the years. I can’t help but wonder how integral the local community was when the cold case unit revisited these crimes. I mean, during that time, community involvement and pressure can make or break an unsolved case. In many situations, people who press for answers don’t realize how instrumental their voices are in keeping the spotlight on cases that would otherwise be forgotten. It’s critical to remember how disadvantaged communities, especially African American communities, seldom get the justice and attention they deserve. I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts who may be familiar with the area or how the community has helped in other cold cases. Unfortunately, Sheila’s case remains technically unsolved despite the DNA link. It’s a reminder of the complexity of solving these crimes, and why community advocacy remains as important as ever. Sending love to anyone affected by these tragic cases. ?
