I've been following Velma Faye Gray's case for a while now, and one thing that really stands out to me is the timeline of events on the night she disappeared. After her performance in Asheville, she was last seen by family around 1 a.m., and just hours later, her car is found abandoned miles away. It's like she vanished into thin air. I can’t imagine the fear she must have felt if her car broke down and she faced a stranger in the dark. What a terrifying situation. The discovery of her body by those two fishermen must have been so traumatic, and my heart goes out to them as well. I hope that moment led to swift action by law enforcement. It’s haunting to think how close she was to home, just trying to get back to her son to help him with college preparations. Knowing now that Lesley Eugene Warren confessed and that he was masquerading as a truck driver is infuriating. I can only imagine the betrayal and anger Velma's family must have felt knowing he might have pretended to be there to assist her. It’s just so unnerving. I'm grateful the authorities persisted and that he was eventually caught, but I wish Velma's family didn't have to endure this nightmare in the first place. I hope they’ve found some peace knowing that the case is moving toward justice, even if the shadow of such a loss never truly fades.
