I've been digging through old articles and one detail that just breaks my spirit is the community's initial efforts to find Mary Jones. It's clear those first few days were filled with hope, folks really came together posting flyers and contacting everyone they could think of. It's so sad to think that at the time, some may have held onto the belief that she was still out there, unharmed.
What's haunting is that early misconception about the suspect being a white man with surgical skills. It makes me wonder how many leads were dismissed because of that initial assumption. So many missed chances to catch Walker earlier and maybe save others. My heart aches for Mary's family and all the families involved—it must have been such a roller coaster of emotions for them. Does anyone have any information on how the community and investigators finally moved past that wrong lead? It might help shed some light on how they eventually realized Walker was behind these heinous acts.
