I've been thinking a lot about Teaira Batey and the way her case was handled by the authorities. It's so disheartening to see that the response to her disappearance didn't seem to be taken with the urgency it deserved. Teaira was someone who needed extra protections, given her developmental disability and vulnerability. It breaks my heart to imagine the fear and confusion she might have experienced. Her family's frustration speaks volumes about the systemic issues we have in handling cases involving marginalized communities. The fact that she went missing for so long without sufficient action is deeply troubling. It's not just about holding the perpetrator accountable but also ensuring that the system changes to protect others in similar situations. Teaira and her family deserved a more robust response from the beginning. Let's hope that their voices, and those of other victims' families, are heard and lead to much-needed change.
