It's so chilling to think about how Dorothy Fain must have felt before her life was taken in such a horrific manner. One detail that can't stop haunting me is how she, like the other victims, lived alone. While independence is admirable at any age, it's terrifying to realize how vulnerable this can make someone in their later years. It's painful to think that someone might have taken advantage of her solitude and breached the safety of her own home.
I can't get over the fact that she and other victims were probably just living their everyday lives, unaware that someone like Brandon Tholmer was lurking around. It really makes me reflect on how important it is to foster close-knit community bonds, especially for our elderly neighbors who live by themselves. Maybe if some had felt less isolated, this monster might have been spotted or deterred sooner. The impact on Dorothy’s family and friends must have been huge, and my heart goes out to them knowing they had to grapple with such a brutal crime.
I've been researching the series of tragic attacks on elderly women in Los Angeles during the early '80s, specifically the case of Dorothy Fain. It truly baffles me how someone like Brandon Tholmer managed to evade capture for so long, given his criminal history and the pattern he followed. It makes me question the system's oversight in monitoring parolees with such vicious backgrounds. The fact that Tholmer was able to commit so many horrific crimes before being apprehended is deeply unsettling. I'm curious about how law enforcement approaches tracking parolees now compared to back then. Have there been improvements since this case to prevent such individuals from slipping through the cracks? Sending love and strength to the families and friends of Dorothy and the other victims. Keeping them all in my thoughts. ?
