Has anyone else been pondering the timeline of events on the night of the fire? The sequence of events as described by Eli seems questionable to me. If Ida was so concerned about saving the milking equipment — which is itself quite odd given the urgency of a fire — why didn't she head to a neighbor’s home sooner for help? It's strange that a fire would start and spread enough to claim their home before immediate action was taken. Plus, why wasn't Eli the one to run for help while there was still time? And the idea of a heart condition as the cause, despite what her doctor stated, seems like a weak cover story. My heart truly goes out to Ida’s family; it must be incredibly frustrating to still not have clear answers after all these years. Thoughts?

I came across this case again recently and something that really sticks with me is the role of the community and how it was handled at the time. It's absolutely baffling how no real investigation followed Ida's tragic death. Given all the circumstances and Eli's later criminal activities, it seems like a huge oversight. It's haunting to think about her family and what they must have gone through, trusting law enforcement to uncover the truth but ultimately receiving no answers or justice at the time. Ida’s family, especially her brother, truly demonstrated resilience trying to re-open her case after so many years. It must have been incredibly difficult to keep pushing for answers when everything seemed to be swept under the rug. The Amish community's traditions and their initial trust likely added an extra layer of complexity to all of this. It's so important to continue discussing these cases, both for Ida and Danny's memory and for the many who still have unanswered questions. I hope this case can eventually see some form of resolution, no matter how late it comes. Thoughts and prayers to Ida's family for everything they've been through.
