It's incredibly sad to think about the pain and anguish that the family of Obie Fay Ash had to endure back in 1969. I happened to read about the case recently, and something that's been on my mind is how Obie's car was found near the Baxter Furniture Company, so close to the town square. It's chilling to consider how her car was parked just two blocks away, in what should have been a place of safety—right in the heart of the community.
I grew up in a small town, and I can only imagine how unsettling it must have been for the residents of Mountain Home to learn about such a horrific crime happening right in their midst. It’s a reminder to me of how sometimes, evil can be lurking even in the most familiar and trusted places. My thoughts are with Obie's children and other loved ones who had to navigate life knowing what happened to their mom in such a close-knit community.
Also, I’m curious if anyone knows more about how the community responded after Obie was found. Was there increased security or other measures taken in the town during that time to help neighbors feel safe again? It just seems like this kind of event would rock a community to its core.
