I’ve been really engrossed in the Dorothy Waterstreet case today. I read about it again, and one detail that sticks out is the mishandling of early leads by the Amsterdam police. It must have been devastating for her family to think that maybe, just maybe, if things were handled differently from the start, justice could have been served. I can't imagine how hard it would be for them, knowing her case went unsolved, even though there seemed to be a strong suspect in Lemuel Smith. Hearing about his later crimes just adds salt to the wound, knowing he went on to harm others. We always hear about the importance of early investigation in solving such crimes, and it's so frustrating to think that Dorothy’s case might have been another victim of early missteps. My heart goes out to her loved ones, having to live with this shadow of uncertainty for all these years. ?
Does anyone have more information about Dorothy Waterstreet’s history in the community? I've been digging into this case a bit, and it seems like she was well-regarded, especially given her involvement in the church. I can't help but wonder if knowing more about her life could provide any clues or context that the initial investigation missed. It's so sad to think that someone could be targeted like this while just going about their daily life. It must have been terrifying for other locals at the time, knowing that something so violent could happen to one of their own. Does anyone have family stories or community accounts from back then that might shed light on how this affected the neighborhood? It's such a tragedy that her murder was never resolved, and it seems important to keep discussions alive about cases like Dorothy's.
