I just came across some old newspaper clippings from 1974 about the double murder case of Joanne Delardo and Doreen Carlucci, and it really hit me hard thinking about what their families went through. It's chilling to know how a community activity like a church dance could turn into such a tragedy. I can’t even imagine the pain of waiting for two weeks, holding onto hope, only for it to end in such horror.
One thing I find particularly haunting is how quickly the calm of a regular evening can turn into an unthinkable nightmare. The girls were just at the dance, like countless teens before them, and then stopping for ice cream—a slice of normal life, right? It makes you reflect on the vulnerability we sometimes don't realize in mundane moments, and to think about how this monster Reldan was out there, making ordinary activities perilous.
My heart goes out to Joanne and Doreen’s families for the unimaginable loss they’ve had to carry all these years. The bravery it must take to keep their memories alive and to push through each day without them... it’s beyond words. It’s so important we keep discussing these cases and remembering the victims to ensure they’re never forgotten.
