Does anyone else feel gutted thinking about all the years Bill Wegerle lived under the shadow of suspicion? It’s hard to even imagine the weight he must have carried, losing his wife and then being doubted by so many. I don’t think I’ll ever understand what it was like for him and those kids, but getting accused, even silently, while you're grieving sounds unbearable. I’ve read through a lot about the BTK case, and it’s such a chilling revelation that Dennis Rader managed to blend into the community like he did. But Bill, in particular, was stuck in that heartbreaking ambiguity for so long. I’m grateful the truth finally emerged, and I hope it’s helped him find some peace after all he’s endured. Thoughts with the Wegerle family today.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how Vicki Wegerle’s case went cold for so long, even though her family and the whole community desperately sought answers. It’s unbelievably frustrating how her husband, Bill, had to live under a cloud of suspicion for years. Can you imagine living with such a heavy burden while grieving? It's infuriating that Dennis Rader hid in plain sight and continued to inflict pain and fear. The tenacity of law enforcement to connect the dots after so many years is commendable, but the emotional toll this must have taken on Vicki’s loved ones is unimaginable. I hope they found some peace once Rader was finally caught and justice prevailed. Vicki deserved to be safe in her home, and it’s a somber reminder of how important it is that we continue to support victims’ families and remain vigilant in our communities.
