I came across an old newspaper clipping about Pamela Sue Barker, and I just can’t shake the image of what she must have gone through. Living in fear with someone like Marion Albert Pruett, who would later be unmasked as a serial killer, must have been terrifying. It’s so sad that even in a program meant to protect them, the danger was right in her home. The brutality of her murder is horrifying, and it’s chilling to think this was only the start of a chain of bloodshed. It makes you wonder both how many people are silently suffering in violent relationships and how hard it is to get justice for them. It’s weird, too, that Pruett never truly confessed to her murder, even attempting to profit from her memory. My heart goes out to her family and everyone else affected by Pruett’s spree. It’s a haunting reminder that sometimes the monsters aren't hiding in the shadows—they're right beside us.
