I’ve been thinking a lot about the deep impact the 1991 murders of Hattie Wilson and Shirley Douglas had on their family and the Fort Worth community. It must have been a surreal and painful 17 years of not knowing who was responsible, all while trying to cope with such a brutal loss. Hattie was known for her kindness and connection to her community, making this crime even more shocking. What really strikes me is how these cases seem to remind us of the resilience required by those left behind, to continue searching for justice even when it feels out of reach. I can't imagine the relief mixed with sorrow Hattie and Shirley’s loved ones must have felt when the DNA evidence finally linked Perkins to their deaths. It’s a stark reminder of the importance of forensic advancements in bringing justice to victims and closure to families, even decades later. It’s a tragic comfort, knowing that the person responsible was ultimately brought to account, even if justice took far too long to achieve. My thoughts are with those who knew and loved Hattie and Shirley. ❤️
