In the spring of 2022, the life of 59-year-old Jeffrey Dwayne Gillom, a Black male from Des Moines, Iowa, was tragically cut short. On a Sunday evening, Gillom was in the 2400 block of Hickman Road when gunfire erupted. Both he and a woman were struck by the bullets. Emergency services responded to the scene, and Gillom was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries.
