I've been thinking a lot about the role of the trash can in Brenda Pruitt's case. It’s so sad to think that an everyday object was used in such a horrific way. I know the can was traced back to Beiner Hardware, but it's chilling to think how easy it was for Muehlberg to just purchase something so mundane and use it to conceal such an atrocious crime. It's like he blended this horrible act into the ordinary world, and no one had a clue. It's really frustrating how long it took to piece things together. Technology wasn’t on our side back then, but thankfully DNA advancements finally brought some answers to Brenda's family. It’s just horrific to think of all the years they spent not knowing what had happened to her. I hope they’re able to find some semblance of peace now. These kinds of cases just haunt me; they remind us of how careful we all have to be and how much we need to support the ongoing efforts for justice.
