Has anyone else been thinking about the role of bystanders or friends in situations like what happened to Jason Martinell? I’m not trying to place blame on his friend who chose not to call the police after finding him; I can’t imagine the shock and fear they must have felt in that moment. But it has me wondering if people would be more willing to report if there was a way to do it anonymously in situations that seem super dangerous. With all the debate about personal accountability in events like these, should there be more emphasis on creating a safe way for witnesses to come forward without fear of retaliation or legal trouble? My heart goes out to Jason's family and friends dealing with this tragic loss. It's a complicated and painful situation for everyone involved, and I hope they find the justice and peace they need.
