I’ve been following the tragic case of Jimmie Walker and feel compelled to discuss something that’s been bothering me the whole time - the role of technology. It's haunting to think how surveillance footage, which might seem innocuous to most of us, played such a crucial role in identifying the suspect’s vehicle, especially with something as specific as a malfunctioning headlight in the case of Walker’s murder. It makes me wonder about the unseen layer of surveillance we pass by daily without much thought.
Though technology helped lead to Hudgens' capture, the privacy implications give me pause. That footage helped bring some much-needed progress to a horrific situation, and while nothing will bring Mr. Walker back to his family and friends, I hope justice brings them some sense of closure.
