I was reading about George C. Caldwell's case, and it's just so difficult to wrap my head around how something so terrible happened outside a place as ordinary as a convenience store. I drive past that Dodge's Store on Old Edisto Road regularly, and it hits differently knowing the tragedy that took place there. It's a spot I associate with routine stops and quick errands—never danger or loss. I can't stop thinking about how the Orangeburg community and Caldwell's loved ones must be feeling right now. Losing someone unexpectedly like that is a pain so deep, especially when there are still so many unanswered questions. My heart goes out to his friends and family as they prepare to say their goodbyes at his funeral services. I really hope that anyone with even the smallest piece of information comes forward soon so that justice can be served.
