I can't stop thinking about the role that sports played in John Varney's life. It's a facet of his character that really reflects his spirit and how he connected with people. I read that he was inducted into the Liberty Union Thurston Athletic Hall of Fame, which says a lot about his talent and dedication. It's clear from what's been shared in the community that his love for sports extended beyond his own participation—he seemed to really embody the values of teamwork and perseverance in everything he did. What stands out most is how much he seemed to enjoy mentoring young athletes and inspiring them to achieve their best. As someone who values community involvement, I find this incredibly admirable. John must have positively impacted so many lives that way. It's another layer to the tragedy of his loss, knowing how much more he had to give. My heart goes out to his family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. If anyone else wants to share stories about John's influence or impact through sports, I'd love to hear about them.
