Jack Murrian was 61 when he took off from Melbourne Regional Airport on May 8, 1991, in a single-engine Piper Comanche for what he expected to be a brief 30-minute flight. He did not file a flight plan because he planned to return shortly, but he never came back and neither he nor the aircraft has been found.

Authorities mounted a massive 12-day search covering about 10,000 square miles, with the Civil Air Patrol and other agencies conducting multiple flights and ground searches, yet no trace was recovered. Murrian had more than 2,200 hours of flying experience; investigators suspect a crash in a remote area, but the exact circumstances of his disappearance remain undetermined. He was a deacon at Lockmar Baptist Church and worked as a maintenance man.

Does anyone have information about Murrian’s final flight or recall seeing a Piper Comanche in the Melbourne area on May 8, 1991?
