Has anyone else thought about how Jeffrey had his whole life ahead of him, and how he was just getting to explore all his interests? As someone who loved science and animals so much, I can’t help but think about all the adventures and discoveries he might have had. I grew up going to museums and zoos, just like him, and some of my best memories are tied to those visits. I imagine him eagerly soaking up knowledge and maybe even dreaming of working with animals or in science one day. It's so unfair that he won't get to chase those passions. My heart goes out to his classmates and teachers at Pathfinder Elementary, who must feel an immense loss. I hope they remember to share stories of him so that his passion for learning inspires other kids. It feels like we, as a community, need to find a way to honor his curiosity and love for discovery.
I can't help but think about the teachers and classmates at Pathfinder Elementary who must be grappling with this tragedy every day. Jeffrey's title as "Keeper of Odd Knowledge" paints a picture of a truly unique and bright little soul. His curiosity and joy for learning undoubtedly left a mark not just on his peers, but on his teachers as well. I imagine the classroom feels a little emptier now without his constant stream of questions and excitement over new discoveries. We often forget how much kids teach us, and how their energy can transform a space. My heart goes out to all the students who called Jeffrey and Charlotte friends—it's hard enough for adults to process such loss, let alone children. I'm sure the memorial service provided a moment to remember the light they brought into the world, even for those who only knew them from school. It must be a challenging time for the whole community.
