Does anyone else find it odd that there haven’t been any sightings of Douglas Pengilley's white Volkswagen Rabbit? Cars don’t just disappear without a trace. Even if Douglas had an accident or something, you’d think someone would have come across the car by now. I’m wondering if anyone in the El Cajon area recalls unusual car activity around January 1992, or if there were any reports of abandoned vehicles fitting the description that might not have made the news. Also, since it’s such a unique car model, maybe someone in the car restoration or mechanics community has come across it? Just feels like there should be more to go on here. It's unsettling that both Douglas and the car vanished, leaving zero clues.
It's puzzling how some cases seem to just fall off everyone's radar. I've been following Douglas Pengilley's case, and what's been really sticking in my mind is the fact that his car, the white '92 VW Rabbit, was never found. It's been over 30 years, and one would think that the car would have shown up somewhere by now. There aren't many places a vehicle can stay hidden for that long, right? I'm starting to wonder if there was any check done on all the auto salvage yards in the area back then. I know some people theorize about foul play, but I can't help but think that any leads regarding the car might give us a fresh angle to look at. Anyone else have thoughts on where else the search could have expanded, maybe beyond California?
Has anyone else been intrigued by the lack of information on Douglas Pengilley’s Volkswagen Rabbit? It’s like it vanished into thin air alongside him. I’ve been thinking about how this might be a key piece of the puzzle. Given the car's unique model and color, you'd think someone would have spotted it or parts of it by now, especially along busy routes or even in scrapyards.
Has there ever been a focused search around potential accident sites or ferries that might connect with the west coast? Maybe it's a long shot, but vehicles like this can leave a trace if we dig deep enough. If anyone has local knowledge about abandoned vehicles around that time, please share. Anything might help to trigger a lead for Douglas's family and the investigators. The mystery surrounding the car feels like it’s an untapped lead.
