I’ve been following the case of Percy Baytop Jr., and the whole situation still feels so surreal and tragic. My heart especially goes out to his family and friends. I’ve been thinking a lot about the location where this happened—the 600 block of Convention Center Blvd—such a busy part of New Orleans, especially around the New Year! It’s unnerving to think an argument could escalate to such a terrible outcome in a spot where so many people pass through. I can’t help but wonder how this started and what led to things getting so out of hand. Was it something innocuous that spiraled out of control? And what’s with the parking garage—was it just a chance meeting or was there some prior history between Baytop and Sean Black? Given how it’s supposed to be a festive time of year, the contrast makes this incident all the more shocking. The whole thing is just so senseless, and I hope we learn more soon. Sending strength to everyone grieving Percy’s loss.
