I’ve been following the tragic events at the Mamou Mardi Gras and am deeply moved by the outpouring of love and support for Alaya Christian and her family. It’s so clear that Alaya was beloved by everyone who knew her. Her participation in sports and her role as a student trainer speak volumes about her commitment and leadership. What really struck me was her aspiration to study kinesiology at an HBCU in Louisiana. It's such a beautiful testament to her dedication to both her education and her community. These dreams are what define a person's future, and it's just so difficult to comprehend that her potential has been lost in such a senseless act. I think we all need to keep pushing for conversations around the increased security measures at public events to ensure that no family has to endure this kind of pain ever again. It's essential that action is taken so that Alaya's dreams are honored and her legacy endures by making these events safer for everyone. To Alaya's family: We’re thinking of you and are truly saddened by your loss. Wishing you strength and solidarity in this difficult time.
