I’ve been thinking a lot about the aftermath of the shooting and the immense impact it must be having on the families involved, especially Quaysean T. Isom's loved ones. Losing someone so young and full of potential as the new year begins must be an unfathomable ordeal. The chaos of that night and the struggle to get information out of witnesses must be incredibly frustrating for both the families and the detectives working the case. What really gets me is how events like this can fracture a community's sense of safety and progress. We’ve heard that violent crime had been decreasing in Kankakee, but instances like this remind us that there's still work to be done. It’s disheartening to think about how everyone at the party, including those who got hurt, will carry this trauma forward. Let’s hope the police can sort through the details and hold the perpetrators accountable. In the meantime, sending strength to everyone directly affected and hoping the reluctance to speak out doesn’t stand in the way of justice. If anyone was there and saw something, now’s the time to step up for Quaysean, Trevontae, and the others.
