I've been following this tragic case closely, and something that's eating away at me is the history of conflict between John McQuillen and his son, Brandon. It’s clear there was a lot of unresolved tension, given the emergency protection orders they had against each other. I can’t help but wonder what events escalated things to such a devastating point. It’s terrifying to think that someone could carry so much anger and hatred towards their own father.
The fact that Brandon had a history of violence, including that horrible incident with his ex-girlfriend, only makes this whole situation more alarming. It’s shocking that someone who served time for such violent behavior could be walking free so soon and go on to commit an even more heinous crime. John's senseless murder is a terrible loss for the Middletown community, especially for those who knew him through his service as a reserve deputy. My thoughts go out to his family and loved ones as they navigate through this painful time.
