I’ve been following the discussion about Kamel Carpenter’s tragic death, and something that really struck me was the location of the shooting. The community event center on 55th Street was supposed to be a place for gathering and bridging communities, right? It’s just so disturbingly ironic and devastating that such violence erupted there. I feel for Kamel's family and friends who have to face the loss of a young man who had his whole life ahead of him. The area already has mixed reputations, and this incident might perpetuate more fear and division if we’re not careful. I hope people keep coming together to support each other and stand against the violence affecting our neighborhoods. We need more peace-building efforts. As always, hoping for justice for Kamel and the others affected. Any news on if there are any initiatives in that community to prevent further violence?
